Pelotherapy: Hawaiian Clay
Harvested deep in the lush Upcountry forest, on slopes of Haleakala, our clay is gently washed, stone ground by hand, sun dried, and then carefully sealed in glass jars to ensure the purity of our clay, creating a brighter, more confident you. Our Hawaiian Clay is formed from an ancient volcanic ash deposit found deep in the rainforest of Maui, Hawaii, where it has been purified for thousands of years by sacred springs and the gentle rains of the islands.
Pelotherapy, a familiar practice at luxury spas and wellness centers worldwide, is the use of healing earth -clay and mud- for detoxification, wellbeing, and increased purity of spirit. We offer mineral rich, hand-harvested red Hawaiian Clay that is completely free of mechanical processing.
The high mineral content, combined with the healing power of volcanic ash, makes our Hawaiian Clay ideal for cleansing and purification. The clay’s neutral pH levels allow your skin to heal, then maintain its fresh, natural glow, while helping to protect your skin over time with its high content of phosphorous and magnesium. We present it with our blessings and hope you enjoy using it.
Long ago Hawaiians used this natural remedy to heal their wounds and to purify their bodies. Healing clays and medicinal minerals have been used by people worldwide to detoxify, heal and promote health. Native Americans called these medicinal minerals Ee-Wah-Kee, or the mud that heals, Ancient Egyptians called it Pteen and the Hawaiians called it Alaea.
Hawaiians used the sacred red clay as a dye in purification ceremonies (hi’uwai), as a way to heal broken bones and remove poisons through the skin, and it was sometimes even eaten as a nutritional supplement. Our unique red clay gains its ochre luster from the abundance of iron and other minerals.

Our bodies have a natural protection called the Acid Mantle. The pH of the acid mantle and that of our skin is between 4.2 and 5.4. When you wash your body with soap it also washes away your acid mantle because it has a very basic pH level, which is why soap isn’t always the best solution for skin treatment. The best skin treatments maintain the body’s natural protection.
Hawaiian Clay has a natural pH level of 5.2, so it is an excellent product to use for the skin as it helps clean, exfoliate, and heal as it maintains your body’s natural protection.
